The discussions focused on business climate and private sector development in Ethiopia. Both sides engaged in a comprehensive review of the country’s current macroeconomic reform agenda, with the Addis Chamber’s significant role in these initiatives being highlighted.
H.E. Meyer commended the Ethiopian government’s ongoing reforms under its Ten-Year Homegrown Economic Reform Program. Key measures noted included the opening of the banking and telecommunications sectors, as well as the planned launch of a stock exchange and capital markets.
“Transitioning from a state-led to a private sector-led economy is a significant undertaking,” stated H.E. Meyer. He emphasized the importance of fully implementing these reforms and bridging existing gaps to ensure their success.
The official also acknowledged the vital contribution of the Ethiopian diaspora, whose remittances serve as a key driver for private sector growth and development in the country.
Discussants also calls for more concerted effort to enhance Public Private Partnerships modalities and dialogue to thrive that will further boost business and investment in Ethiopia.
