IoD-Ethiopia is an institute that looks after the professional development and ethical conduct of directors in holistic manner and it is established to promote good corporate governance and empowers businesses to implement those standards which can significantly influence the business environment at large.

Finding the right director for companies’ boards by conducting a CV and other related credentials search so that companies can get potential candidates

  • Setting standards and benchmarks of best practice
    • Setting standards on governance by developing documents (such as Codes of Corporate Governance, board charter, Guidelines for Board Regulations, Guidelines for Corporate Risk Management, codes of ethics, etc) for companies to use as model and develop their own governance documents.
    • Develop customized governance documents for companies based on their interest. 
  • Organize forums
    • Organize forums that aimed to raise awareness, stimulate dialogue, and provide guidance on the implementation of governance matters
  • Consultancy and advisory services

Provide practical advice and recommendations with a purpose of improving overall governance in organizations particularly on corporate governance implementation (board charter, evaluation framework, coaching, etc)

Board Performance Evaluation/Appraisal

  • Identify and address gaps or weaknesses, through an assessment of overall board and individual performance against governance best practices and director expectations with the intent to design improvement action plans

Researches & Studies

  • Conduct and coordinate research on governance issues to monitor and measure the application of different governance elements in the country

Customized board development service – this service is demand-driven, for e.g. institutes address areas of companies’ concern or gaps by discussing challenges specific to the organization (strategy, marketing, financial risks, HR, legal framework, remuneration, etc)

  • National Bank of Ethiopia

Secretary General of the Addis Chamber, Ato Shibeshi Bettemariam, met with the Vice Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), Mr. Solomon Desta and his team at the office of the NBE. The discussions were centered on exploring potential areas of partnership to the benefit of private sector development and national economic interests. A host of critical initiatives that Addis Chamber set out to implement capital markets services by our chamber, capacity building of the Ethiopian financial sector actors, eliciting good corporate governance and certification programs for board directors through the Institute of Directors, which Addis Chamber is poised to launch soon. Addis Chamber expressly thanks the Vice Governor and his team for the great hospitality and candid exchange of ideas.

Addis Chamber signed MoU with IoD Kenya

  • Addis Chamber starts its journey of establishing well founded and sustainable Institution by benchmarking best practice from our neighboring country Kenya. Institute of Directors (Kenya) exists as a professional organization for company directors, business leaders, senior executive and entrepreneurs. It is an organization for professional directors, born and incorporated under act in 2003 and have been serving its members for the last 18 years. Addis Chamber signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the IoD (Kanya) for a mutually beneficial strategic partnership and professionalization of directorship in Ethiopia.
