Business Community urged to boost its effort to Promoting Positive Peace in Ethiopia

Professor Mesfin, Commisioner of the National Dialogue commision, urged the business community to share its concerns to the commission through Addis Chamber.

The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (Addis Chamber) hosted a Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) Summit focused on promoting positive peace in Ethiopia to address major concerns of business communities.

Addis Chamber as one of its strategic intervention hosts grand PPD advocacy platforms to address major concerns of the business communities and its members.

Entitled with “the Role of Businesses for Peace Building Initiatives”, the summit was attended by religious leaders, elders, business representatives, civil society organizations, academic institutes , invited guests discussed the importance of peace for sustainable development.

Mrs. Zahara Mohammed, President of Addis Chamber in her welcoming address, urged all participants to champion positive peace, while Kesis Tagay Tadele, Secretary General of the Inter-Religious Council of Ethiopia, emphasized the business community’s role in peace-building for a stable economy and society.

Professor Mesfin Araya, Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, commended the Addis Chamber’s initiative and reiterated the commission’s commitment to addressing diverse issues raised by Ethiopians.

He urged the business community to share its socio-economic concerns with the commission through its chamber, Addis chamber.

Dr. Meseret Molla, Secretary General of the Addis Chamber, affirmed the chamber’s commitment to continuing similar PPD platforms to address peace and socio-economic development challenges.

The PPD forum has also hosted a panel discussion where by university professors, religious leaders and researchers shared their insights to the gathering that was later discussed by particpants.

Dr. Tilahun Bejitwal from the academia , Mr. Leulseged Girma from the private sector and Pastor Tamirat Abegaz from the inter religious council of Addis Ababa were among the panelists .

The veteran Journalist Tibebu Belete, moderated the consultative meeting.

The chamber has recently conducted similar Public Private consultative meeting on Tax and customs reform in collaboration with the CIPE.

The chamber will continue to serve its members and the business community through different services including advocacy , it is learnt.
