Addis chamber - Skill Development Enhancing Collaboration is Key for effective Skill Development

Nowadays Addis Chamber is pioneering to envision a vibrant TVET sector that can address the skilled labor gap widely observed in industries of the labor market.
Thus in order to respond to such challenges Addis Chamber has entered to a project agreement ( SPA 2 Project) with the renowned BMO Confederation of Danish Industries in three strategic areas including gender , skill development and just and green transition.
Enhancing the capacity of TVET institute and filling the skilled labor gap is one of the key project components under SPA 2 and as part of such activities, Addis Chamber hosted successive platforms to enhance the awareness of stakeholders towards bridging the skill mismatch that is observed in the labor market.
In a latest engagement, Addis Chamber (AACCSA) convened for a workshop that is aimed at launching a Skill Development Strategy that is deemed to address the mismatch in labor market.
During the workshop panelists have shared and their thought on the need to create synergy among key stakeholders such as government , private sector and TVETs towards boosting employability of graduates and to address the lack of skilled labor in the labor market.
Key stakeholders drawn from various firms including government representatives, business communities, academic institute and TVETs made their presence to exchange views and experience to bolster the strategy and carry out among industries, and firms.
The workshop also brought forward the Sill Development Strategy that has been further reviewed by discussants for better yield.
The workshop also highlighted major challenges facing the skilled labor among other including lack of effective communication among TVETs, lack of infrastructure, incompetent TVET trainers.
In order to address such concerns the workshop put forward a number of recommendations including the need to enhance partnership among industries, the need to work towards creating professional development and forming technical panel of experts to guide the development of the skill labor force.
During the workshop Addis Chamber signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Addis Ababa Tegbared Poly Technic College, General Wingate Poly Technic College and STVC for joint collaboration to address the gap in skill labor.
