With new leadership and strategic thinking, the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce & Sectoral Association (Addis Chamber) is playing significant role promoting and supporting private sector development to go green and ensure sustainability amidst of global climate change whereby businesses are hit hard from such calamities.
So as to make a strategic intervention, Addis Chamber, jointly with development partners and government are working to promote the ideas, principles and practices of green growth among businesses and private sector in general.
As part of such endeavors, Addis Chamber has signed a memorandum of understanding with Petroleum and Energy Authority the Petroleum and Energy Authority (PEA) which is the national regulatory body responsible for the development, regulation, and oversight of Ethiopia’s energy sector, with a mandate to promote sustainable energy practices, energy efficiency, and access to reliable energy services.
According to the signing parties, the signed agreement is intends to enhance collaboration between the two institutes in promoting sustainable energy practices and energy efficiency within the private sector , facilitate policy advocacy to create an enabling regulatory environment for energy efficiency and renewable energy adoption.
It is also learnt that the signed agreement to include to build the capacity of businesses, particularly SMEs, in energy management and clean energy technologies among others.
Mr. Zekarias Assefa, Secretary General from Addis Chamber and Dr. Destaw Mekuanint, Director General from PEA put their signage with the presence of senior leaders from the two institutes while both leaders calling for commitment to carry out the implementation of such agreements.
Addis Chamber secured a grant fund from GIZ has officially launched a Green Growth Initiative for Sustainable Business Growth (GGI-SBG) Project, it is learnt.
