Addis chamber calls on businesses to discharge their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Peace Building Initiatives

In her exclusive interview with Addis Chamber Media, Mesenbet Shenkute, President of Addis Chamber, calls on businesses to discharge their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Peace Building Initiatives as one key stakeholder.
While briefing the annual performance of Addis Chamber, during the concluded Ethiopian budget year 2016 E.C , the president highlighted that both local and global factors are affecting businesses in Ethiopia , yet Addis Chamber made relentless endeavor to support businesses and aware about the business dynamism unfolding locally and globally.
During the concluded year, Addis Chamber hosted several discussion platforms that aimed at informing and capacitating business communities in diverse thematic issues in the meantime providing policy recommendation to enhance competitiveness.
Maintaining durable peace in Ethiopia and beyond is pivotal for businesses to operate smoothly and this has been the ensuing challenge for business sector in Ethiopia.
During the concluded year, Addis Chamber hosted business nexus peace conferences to aware business communities and contribute thier share for peace building efforts in the country.
During the current budget year 2017 E.C, Addis Chamber will continued to be the voice of private sector by employing IT based services and tapping best experiences from abroad.
Meanwhile the president also called on business operators and investors to create more job opportunities to combat unemployment and to address peace.
In addition she called on businesses to discharge their corporate social responsibility to address and reach out destitute.
Besides to these the president urges government to adopt conducive policies that favor private sector to thrive as well as protecting BMOs such as Chamber of Commerce.
Particularly the president reiterates the need for government to closely work with BMOs that are presumed to be the representatives of business communities.
Concluding her interview, the president reiterates the commitment of Addis Chamber in serving the business communities through expanding its services, building the capacity of its members and staff to achieve its strategic objectives.
Noting that ample opportunities are emerging for businesses such as capital market, forex liberalization and so on, business communities are expected to use such opportunities for better competitiveness and at the same time BMOs such as chamber of commerce are better advised to cooperate rather than entering to unhealthy competition.
