For more than 15 years German has become one of the major development partners of Ethiopia especially through its development organization known as GIZ. It is also a key partner in the development of industrial park among others.
The project “private Sector Development project Ethiopia” is the latest project of German in Ethiopia that aims to improve the growth of opportunities of small and medium sized enterprises, startups and small growth oriented businesses.
After completing the nine month inception, team of experts and stakeholders from GIZ launched a kick off meeting for the project “Private sector development in Ethiopia”.
The kick off meeting for the project has drawn various stakeholders from Ministry of Industry, ministry of Innovation and technology, Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce, and other stakeholders.
In his opening remark, Benjamin Tedla Hecker, deputy head of development cooperation from German Embassy, said that Ethiopia is a priority country for German to provide multifaceted support for the country.
While addressing the workshop, Shisema G/Sellassie, State minister of industry extended his gratitude for the relentless support of GIZ in supporting development in Ethiopia further saying joint coordination is vital to envision strong private sector in Ethiopia.
Bayissa Bedada( PhD), state minister of Innovation and Technology underlines the importance of the project in improving capabilities of intermediaries as well as enhancing interconnectivity among local and international organizations.
The meeting also hosted panel discussion where more reflections and recommendations were forwarded regarding project implementations, steering structure and project management committees.
In a panel discussion, Shibeshi B/Mariam, secretary general of Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association underlines the need to avoid bureaucratic procedures among various lines to properly implement the designed projects.
He further noted the importance of instituting secretariat to carry out PSD project activities in the nation smoothly.
